Negima! Manga Volume 33As I reread the chapters in this volume, I found myself depressed since the manga is ending soon in Japan.  *sigh*

That aside, this volume had several interesting elements. A glimpse at the world of Cosmo Entelekheia (Entelecheia), which  for Negi, provided a peaceful world where he has parents and the like.  The battle between Zazie’s sister “Poyo” and Mana reveals that Mana is half-mazoku, which explains a few things. It was nice seeing the real Asuna again, though no information was provided to explain how she reconciled with her earlier self. Ako’s pactio is revealed to give boosts to the others, allowing inexperienced Yuuna and Makie to be able to fight against the experienced girls with Fate. Setsuna gets squared off with Tsukuyomi, allowing Akamatsu-sensei to clearly bridge Negima! with Love Hina by having Motoko’s sister, Tsuruko, being shown in a flashback, educating Setsuna about the sword named Hina.

When chapter 300 was released in Japan, there was a special, all color Love Hina chapter released as well.  That’s not included here, but to be fair, I didn’t think it would be.  I’m hoping it shows up as an extra in one of the Love Hina omnibus editions.

Anyway, from a story perspective, things are very action-packed as Negi and company move to their goal of rescuing Anya, Asuna, and making their escape from the Magic World.  Its all good stuff.

On the Kodansha Comics side, we get the (often terrible) Japanese fan artwork, Misora Kasuga’s Life Counseling (which featured things from the seiyuu doing the anime voices of the characters), and a section on some of the 3D artwork used. There are limited translator notes as well.

In the “I’m REALLY getting pissed off” section, Kodansha Comics once again flushes Japanese cover art-notes.  Why Kodansha? WHY?!  Two pages are wasted on a dumb preview, when I’d rather see the line notes.  Those were always interesting and enjoyable, so it makes no sense that they aren’t being included, especially since they were translated. Its almost as if Kodansha Comics is just giving us the middle finger.  INCLUDE IT!  Its only TWO PAGES for crying out loud.

In the “it will never happen, but I can still dream” section, I would love to have the color page for the LE art edition included too.  For those who haven’t seen it, here are the tankoubon covers, courtesy of カートゥン☆ワールド- (Cartoon World).

Negima! Manga Volume 33

To quote myself from volume 32, “So while the volume is a good one, Kodansha Comics appears to be traveling down an “up yours, customers” road and I for one am not happy about that.”

I miss the days when the previews were actually a couple pages of the Japanese version. The new previews look like short ads you’d see in a magazine.

Some news about Isekai season 1 BDs:
It appears that Final 8 would be doing the BDs for it. They have 1080p FLAC, 720p AAC @256Kbps (both of them 10-bit encoding), and 480p AAC (8-bit encoding): http://final8.yolasite.com/isekai.php

I don’t know how the translation, video, etc. is.

There is another group that translated Isekai a long time ago (and originally we all watched Isekai with them), but I don’t remember the group’s name or whether they had any BDs released.

Thanks for the info. There were two groups that did ISM back when it was being released. I know that the BD version for volume 1 was released, because it had additional footage.

I do feel sad that they no longer include the little back panel extras and cover extras…those made me laugh a lot and even provided some insight…GIVE US BACK THOSE

      Yes! “GIVE US BACK THOSE!”

    • Negima might be the last series that I get from Kodansha at this rate. 5 more volumes from me and KC will stop from there unless a LH omnibus comes out. The only reason why volumes 29 and 30 continued down a “del-rey”-ish path (The cover art at the back ceased after volume 30) was because Del Rey had probably already put together the material, and all that really needed editing was the logo on the cover and maybe the omake translation. It seems like KC is not giving consumers what they want because the workers don’t have nearly as much time allotted (basically saying up yours to the workers, and by doing that, saying up yours to the consumer).

If anything needs to change, it’s KC. Otherwise, I will never want to (yes, unless it’s a series that I really want to see) get another new [manga series] product from them again and finish off my main 2 series I get from them. In a sense, I am hating (for more emphasis, Abhor) KC and they’re the only one licensed with Negima and LH.

I’m still going to collect Fairy Tail. The Sailor Moon stuff really isn’t gripping me. I’ll have to look and see what else from Kodansha I’m doing other than the Love Hina omnibus.
